Mike and his crew helped us upgrade an off-grid solar system that operates from our Community Harvest Farm (a program of the Ottawa Food Bank). The experience working with Ottawa Solar Power was outstanding and completely exceeded our expectations. Mike is naturally helpful and understood our needs right away; it felt like a true partnership working with him. He provided great explanations, training and communication about his products and process - particularly for those of us who aren't versed in electrical or solar system parlance. My panels were throwing an arc fault code(installed by a now defunct company) so I called Ottawa Solar Power and spoke with Mike. He was here with his electrician (also Mike) the very next day!!! Props!!! They helped me clear the arc fault through my app and got my system back up and running / producing power. They suggested that the system might throw the arc fault code again, but recommended that we wait it out to see if that happens, and if so, to contact them again and arrange for the whole system to be inspected in order to find the source of the arc fault code and rectify the issue once and for all. I had been exploring the investment in solar panels for my home for many years but I always ran into confusion between the technology, the choices, the coordination with Hydro etc, and the various government incentives. Then Michael from Ottawa Solar Power Inc (OSP) came in. He was extremely helpful, communicated very well and walked me through the process. OSP's rates were competitive to anyone else I found and the service provided by Michael and his team was amazing. Always throughtful, thorough, timely and professional. My investment is small (with the interest free loan), then free power for the life of the system. I've dealt with Ottawa Solar for 18 years, with multiple installations and follow-up services. I've also recommended them to family and friends. In every single case Mike has shown to be responsive, trustworthy, friendly and fair. Doesn't try to sell you equipment you don't need - he treats you like a friend and recommends what makes sense for you. I'm sure this is why he has so much customer loyalty. As anyone who has owned these systems will know - individual component pieces can be a commodity, but the thoughtful advice on the entire system purchase and the after sale service relationship is critical to protecting the investment and avoiding tons of headaches. If we could leave a 10-star review, we would. When we set out to build our forever home, we encountered Ontario Hydro layout rates. A few internet searches later, and we were on the phone with Mike. Mike set aside a good hour and a half to review the lifestyle adjustments we might need to make for living off-grid, powering our home with Solar. He was very patient, clear and detailed in what we should expect and how to review our needs. During the build process he and his team were flexible and accommodating. We used Ottawa Solar to build a 10KW ground-mount grid-tie PV system this summer. Mike at Ottawa Solar was great. They are very responsive, and extremely knowledgeable. Mike provided realistic expectations of what to expect with the project and the performance. We have been live for 2 months now, and we are extremely pleased with the performance. So glad we installed it. We would definitely recommend people look at installing a PV system, especially these days with the various grant and loan programs available to offset some of the cost. 2021 update: the system had been in nearly a decade, and is still going strong. (Knock on wood!) Only 2 *very minor* service calls over that entire period, both fixed expeditiously. I understand the economics of both solar panels and microFIT have changed substantially, but these are still good guys if you are thinking off-grid or grid offset. 2016 [?]: In October 2011 I went with Ottawa Solar Power to install 20-panel rooftop solar under the Ontario microFit program. They were quick, efficient and thorough, and the system has operated virtually uninterrupted since then. Last month, possibly as a result of a severe thunderstorm, the system stopped supplying power to the grid. Once I noticed I called Ottawa Solar Power. We did some preliminary diagnosis that day on the phone, but determined a service call was necessary. The tech (Mike) was out today - the next day - and after diagnosis a maintenance-mode factory reset put us back on the air. Prompt & effective! Thanks! ~ David K

I first purchased a full offgrid setup from Mike at Ottawa Solar Power in 2003. A year later, my panels were stolen right off my racks! Mike jumped in and helped replace them at an (at the time) exceptional price. Then, just yesterday I saw a strange truck in my driveway. It was Mike, "just checking in". The timing was perfect because I thought I needed to purchase a new battery bank before winter. Mike came in, checked out my batteries and settings. He made some adjustments to my charge controller and gave me some advice to breathe some new life into my batteries. He could have just as easily went in for the kill and had me order a new battery bank before he left. But no, he didn't pressure me or try to sell me anything. He just gave me the advice and guidance I needed. You won't find better knowledge or customer service from anybody other than Ottawa Solar Power. I purchased a solar power system from Mike ~3 years ago at my new off-grid cottage. I purchased a system with 6 panels, charge controller, inverter, batteries, etc. to support a ~1400 sq foot cottage. The quality of the equipment has been excellent and well worth the investment. Prices were very reasonable, and I had definitely done my homework with comparative shopping before purchasing. Mike explained the entire system to me and recommended that I record it to video. Glad I did, because there are a lot of details and you need to understand the system to trouble shoot. He was very patient with my questions, and explained things clearly. Three years later (last weekend), I was having some issues with my batteries running low. Mike answered my call right away early on a Monday morning, and walked me through all possible issues throughout the day. Checking in with me by text throughout the day to check on readings. Turned out to be an issue with a water pump short that was draining the batteries; not the batteries at all. I was SO grateful to Mike for walking me through.
